Every kid wants to win. Although you are able to have fun and learn from experiences, sometimes, there just are moments when you would feel terribly down after losing a game, and that is when the role of a parent comes in. To make a child feel better, it doesn’t always take much. A few words of encouragement from their parents could just make their day. Parents could just tell their children that they are proud of them for giving their best effort regardless of the result and that they love them no matter what or simply just emphasize the good things they did during the competition. From time to time, simply saying “I love watching you play” or “It’s alright, you have done your best” would give them a heart-warming feeling. Studies show that emotional support is associated with various signs of well-being. Caring about one’s children is very important, so parents or coaches could simply say a few words to make their children feel better and guide them right way.
Parents need to fill a child's bucket of self-esteem so high that the rest of the world can't poke enough holes to drain it dry
- Alvin Price
Many parents like to "show off" their kids to each other. And sometimes, they just forget to encourage their own children and others even force them to do something they don't like. For a child's success, it is necessary for parents to be there for them in difficult times, and to support them if they feel down or depressed.
